I was at Popular bookstore the other day, and I wandered over to the self-help section which had all these business books.
Saw a few familiar titles and faces – books by Robert Kiyosaki, Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn, Adam Khoo, were all staring back at me.
And then I was a hit by a pang of realization…that I did not fulfil one of my most important 2016 goals.
At the start of 2016, I told myself that I was going to read more books on business and marketing. I was going to ravenously consume knowledge and become a better marketer & entrepreneur.
Did I complete my mission?
Sure, I managed to finish a couple of books, read lots of articles online – but it was nowhere near what I wanted to achieve.
And I’ve seen first hand what happens to people who stopped reading and consuming knowledge
They stop growing…and then they start dying.
It doesn’t matter how much of a titan they once were, or how brilliant.
In today’s world, you can easily be overtaken by more ambitious and energetic individuals – even if they’re not as good as you right now
The moment you don’t keep up with the rest of the world, don’t continue to improve yourself, or don’t strive to be ahead of your competitors – it’s only a matter of time before you get overtaken.
This is the reality of the world today – harsh, but fair.
Fair because the little guy who’s willing to put in time and effort and energy, can overtake the big guy who’s resting on his laurels
So, if you’re not willing to be overtaken, you need to reinvigorate and rejuvenate your learning regime once again.
No better way to start off than with a good solid book
